What are terrapins like ?

Terrapins are not a cuddly pet that you can hug. They are cold and wet, and do not like being touched. A terrapin may not suit you if watching it is not enough for you. Terrapins are active in the day, swimming and sunbathing. Your tank should have enough water for it to swim in as well as a rock for it to sunbathe.

How do I look after my terrapin ?

When keeping more than one terrapin, it is important to give them enough space or they might end up fighting. Your terrapin's tank needs to be clean, uneaten food must be remove as it will cause the tank to smell. Feeding your terrapins in a separate smaller tank can allow you to clean the main tank less frequently. Always wash your hands well after touching your terrapins.

What does a terrapin eat ?

Terrapins are omnivores. But as they grow older, they tend to prefer plants to meat. When buying food for your terrapin, make sure it is not for turtles as they eat very different things. To give your terrapins a strong healthy shell, you can add powdered cuttlefish bone or bone meal to their food. Feeding your terrapin the wrong food will make it sick, overfeeding can also make it become fat and unhealthy.
