Guinea pigs are rodents with teeth that grow throughout their lives. There are many different breeds of guinea pigs, some have short and smooth fur while others have long fur that can even cover the eyes. An average guinea pig can grow to about the size of a small rabbit. Guinea pigs can live from 4 to 8 years.

What are guinea pigs like ?

Guinea pigs sleep in the day and are more active in the night. Bing timid and shy animals, they will hide or stand very still when it senses danger. Guinea pigs prefer not to be picked up and would rather play on the ground. When feeding time comes, guinea pigs would make squealing noises.

What do guinea pigs eat ?

Guinea pigs are herbivores and only eat plant matter. It is very important to make sure your guinea pig food contains vitamin C. Storing the food in an airtight container can help prevent the lost of the vitamin C.

How many Should I get ?

As guinea pigs like company, getting at least two guinea pigs of the same sex is ideal. Rabbits may not be good friends for guinea pigs as rabbits can kick your guinea pigs.

How do I look after my guinea pig ?

Guinea pigs have very small legs, hence is dangerous for them to stay in cages with bars at the bottom. It's cage should have a solid bottom or a board to sleep on. Their beddings also need to be changed daily or it will smell. Guinea pigs should be feed once or twice a day.

 Bath your guinea pig when it is dirty, but not too often.
